CATALINA CLASSIC PADDLEBOARD
MANHATTAN BEACH PIER
On Sunday, August 25th, 2013, paddlers from all over the United States and from as far away as Australia will take to the waters off of Southern California in the 38th Catalina Classic Paddleboard Championships, the premier and most historical paddleboard race in the world. Officially started in 1955 by Los Angeles County Lifeguard Bob Hogan, the first Catalina crossing was in 1932. 100 plus watermen/women begin the race in Catalina and paddle across the channel to the Manhattan Beach Pier where a Hawaiian style Hookie lau awaits the participants. (30,000 estimated attendance).
